We weren't looking for a ranch
We were looking for a different way to live.
For years, we lived what many people would call a good life.
We both worked full-time.
Our days followed the same routine.
The alarm clock rang. We rushed to work. We hurried through every task, always watching the clock.
Our son spent his afternoons in childcare, while one of us worked on someone else’s ranch — surrounded by horses, following set routines and a daily life shaped by someone else’s vision.
It was a life with horses. A life on a ranch. But it wasn’t ours.
Our dogs got quick walks before and after work.
Our horses were fed, ridden, and cared for as quickly as possible before it was time to head home, make dinner, go to bed... and start all over again the next morning.
Nothing was really wrong.
But something was missing.
Today we know: it makes a difference whether you’re working for someone else’s dream — or your own.
Like so many people, we lived for the weekends.
We counted the days until our next vacation.
Thirty days each year felt like freedom.
The other 335 days were simply something to get through.
Whenever that quiet voice inside us started asking if life was meant to be more than this, we became experts at distracting ourselves.
Another shopping trip.
Another purchase.
Another weekend.
Another vacation.
Until one day...
Everything changed.
We had just returned from two unforgettable weeks in Thailand.
Adventure.
Nature.
Time together.
Standing on a crowded train platform back in Germany, surrounded by people rushing back into their routines, we looked at each other and knew...
We couldn't go back to living like that.
Not because our life was bad.
But because it no longer felt like our own.
So we stopped waiting for the perfect moment.
We stopped asking, "What if?"
And we started asking,
"Why not?"
Within only a few months, our entire world changed.
We sold almost everything we owned.
We turned impossible ideas into one clear plan.
We traded comfort for uncertainty.
Routine for adventure.
Consumption for purpose.
Convenience for freedom.
Not because it was easier.
Because it was worth it.
Today our days are longer than they have ever been.
This isn't a 9-to-5 life anymore.
It's often sunrise until long after sunset.
There are no weekends.
No holidays.
No shortcuts.
Building a ranch from nothing is physically exhausting.
Sometimes overwhelming.
Sometimes frustrating.
But every drop of sweat has meaning.
Because every fence we build...
every tree we plant...
every animal we care for...
moves us one step closer to the life we chose.
Here, everything has a purpose.
Our horses don't simply live in a pasture.
They carry us across the land we are building.
Our dogs don't just belong to us.
They protect our home.
Our goats provide milk.
Our chickens provide eggs.
Even baking bread with our own hands means something.
This isn't about going backwards.
It's about remembering what really matters.
Iron River Ranch was never built to escape work.
It was built to give our work a purpose.
We don't know where this journey will take us.
But we do know one thing.
We stopped chasing the life we thought we were supposed to live.
And started building the one we truly wanted.
Welcome to Iron River Ranch.
